Heart Failure is a condition in which a person’s heart is not able to pump blood to the rest of the body with the required efficiency. 1. Left-sided Heart Failure -

The left ventricle is responsible for pumping oxygenated blood to the rest of the body. In left-sided heart failure, the left ventricle cannot pump out blood properly. This causes the blood to back up into the lungs, leading to shortness of breath and fluid build-up.

2. Right-sided Heart Failure -

This condition usually arises due to left-sided heart failure. The right ventricle sends the blood to the lungs for oxygenation. The accumulation of blood in the lungs due to left-sided heart failure causes the right ventricle to work harder and eventually fail. Right-sided heart failure can also occur due to lung diseases like emphysema , chronic bronchitis

Heart failure can also be classified as -

1. Diastolic Heart Failure -

This condition occurs when the muscles of the heart become too stiff to relax and fill up with blood properly. This renders the heart unable to pump out blood to the body effectively.

2. Systolic Heart Failure -

Systolic dysfunction develops when the muscles of the heart are not able to contract properly. This happens when cardiac muscles become too weak or enlarged. In this condition, the heart cannot contract properly, leading to improper pumping out of blood to the body.

A person can be affected by either diastolic or systolic heart failure on one or both sides of the heart.Here are the possible symptoms that may develop in a person affected by heart failure -
